About The Project

Access Hardware provided the Southern Folger cell door locking equipment to all new cell doors. All these doors are electrically operated via touchscreens located in the guard’s office for each accommodation wings.

After the initial supply, Queensland Corrective Services (QCS) requested the ability to monitor the use of the mechanical override key. QCS required assurance that when a key had been used in the lock, this event be recorded on their system software. This level of accountability was not available with any detention lock manufacturers’ products.

Access Hardware, in conjunction with Thiess, Honeywell, QCS and Southern Folger (USA) developed a method for achieving this function which is now an option on the factory produced standard lock that is covered by the standard factory warranty. Access Hardware developed a method to retro fit all the existing products in the facility with the Key Override Monitor (KOM) function in a timely and cost effective manner. This included the entire R&D, manufacturing, testing and commission process with no impact on the project completion dates. This was an excellent outcome for QCS.

About The Project

The new RCH was, the largest hospital redevelopment to be undertaken by the State of Victoria and one of the largest hospital projects underway in Australia.

Valued in excess of 1 billion dollars, this project, being delivered as a private public partnership (PPP) presented some significant challenges for all concerned.

A project of this scale required a level of expertise, coordination and cooperation not traditionally seen from a door hardware supply perspective.

Access Hardware was engaged by Lend Lease to operate in the site office, to control the enormously complex door schedule, to ensure its accuracy, be compliant with building codes necessary for public buildings, manage the installation process and ensure all products were fitted accurately and defect free.

Our dedicated staff members working exclusively on this project for the three year stage 1 construction phase, ensured that great working relationships were built that were imperative to delivering a fantastic world class new hospital for the kids of Victoria and the exceptionally skilled staff that run the hospital day to day.

Opened by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in November 2011, the hospital is in full operation providing the highest level of health care for needy children.

While certainly challenging, it is by far one of our most satisfying projects we have been involved in.

This project has been for Access Hardware a show case of how our highly experienced people can have significant and positive impact on the bottom line for the head contractor on these large infrastructure projects.

Access Hardware’s highly skilled people have demonstrated on numerous occasions over the project their worth by identifying issues before they become costly rectification work on site. The level of engagement with the head contractor has become the model for future project of this scale.

About The Project

Access Hardware won the contract for the supply of all door hardware for this greenfield project, one of the biggest hospital projects ever undertaken in Queensland, costing $1.76 billion and providing 750 beds over nine levels and seven main buildings, with a total floor space of 170,000 square metres. This project commenced in August 2011 and finished in September 2013.

Access Hardware assisted Bovis Lend Lease and Queensland Health in the design, manufacture and installation of their site-wide Assa Abloy Protec masterkey system, which involves approximately 4500 cylinders. We began installation in March 2013 and finished in June 2013.

While supplying the GCUH we placed an experienced hardware consultant on site full time to ensure smooth and uninterrupted supply. Our project management and delivery system, where each individual product was marking ensured that all goods were supplied without issue. Our variation management system was also a key factor in the project’s success.

We are currently working with Queensland Health to implement a key management system for the issue and return of keys to staff, training in the use of this system and assistance with additional ancillary locking systems site-wide.

About The Project

In 2002 the Victorian premier Steve Bracks announced Grocon as the successfully contractor for the $450 million dollar redevelop to the MCG.

The redevelopment was to be completed in time for the opening ceremony for the 2006 commonwealth games. The seating capacity will increase from 70,000 to 100,000 seats.

An iconic Melbourne site, the peoples ground, underwent almost a complete upgrade to public and members facilities. About 55% of the site was required to be redeveloped in 5 stage’s while maintaining the minimum ground capacity of 70,000 seats.

A mammoth logistics task, Access Hardware brought our expertise working with all stakeholders to ensure fit for purpose products were employed while maintaining the rigid construction program time lines and of course keeping a tight rein on budgets.

We are extremely proud to be associated with the successful MCG redevelopment. This project has such a public focus, it felt like the entire state of Victoria was willing this one across the line.

The end result is a testament to the expertise of Grocon to deliver this enormously sensitive project to the people of Victoria.

About The Project

Access Commercial Security designed and built a unique keying system that was both user-friendly and easy to maintain. In order to design the master key system, Access Commercial Security staff were in regular contact with the builders to understand the logistics needed to run the plant.

The cylinders and keys were built in our West Melbourne workshops. We installed 380 restricted Lockwood Generation 6 cylinders and cut 160 keys for the project.

Two of our locksmiths attended the Wonthaggi site and installed all the cylinders and completed a successful handover of the keys.

The project was completed in December 2012 and cost $4 billion.
